Terrific Tennis – Week 3

The sun finally announced itself in week 3 but it didn’t shine brighter than the U14 girls in their Colfe’s fixture during Games, as they won all 27 matches played!

The strength in depth of this year group is so very clear to see and they also put up a very strong fight against Brentwood’s U15 girls team on Saturday at West Grove, winning 5 matches to the opposition’s 10. The U15 girls won their Brentwood fixture 11-1 so congratulations to Ayushi, Esha, Aryaa, Nikita, Dhiya, Sofiina, Lani, Martha and Shona.

The U14 A and B boys teams took on St Paul’s Way Trust in the LTA’s Team Tennis event. Asvin, Jamie, Aarav and Alex F were making their B team debut in this event and gained some valuable experience before St Paul’s crossed the winning line just ahead of them. The very experienced A team of Nathan, Ryan, Zaki and Myles made it a sound 4-2 win.

The Mixed Senior team went off to play Chigwell on Wednesday and came home with a commendable 15-3 win. All 6 pairs/trios recorded wins and a particular well done to Safa and Olivia who came away with a “triple bagel”…they didn’t lose a single game in any of their 3 matches!

We had our first ever tennis fixture with The Latymer School on Friday during Thirds Games and our mixed team certainly enjoyed the experience against some very tough opposition. The overall score was 8-13 (girls: 6-3; boys 2-10) and we look forward to our U14 and U15 fixtures with them after half term.

The week culminated in a brilliant mixed block fixture with Brentwood and the U12/13 Haileybury Team Tournament. With over 100 Bancroftians competing that morning, the junior girls came 2nd overall in the 4-way tournament and of our 10 pairs competing, Zara and Bethan came away undefeated against Haileybury, Highgate and St Ed’s. We had 12 boys teams from the U12s all the way up to the L6th battling against Brentwood and there were some really competitive rallies and overall matches. Congratulations to Ryan and Ishaan (Thirds) who won all 4 of their matches!
