Two Weeks of Wonderful Tennis

LTA Team Tennis Area Champions!

Congratulations to Eashan, Arhan, Jake and Ryan on becoming U13 Team Tennis Area Champions, after 3 wins out of 3 against Coopers’ Coborn, Brentwood and Roding Valley.

Big forehands, silky slice backhands and punchy volleys characterise this team’s playing style and they are very entertaining to watch.

They now go on to play in the County knock-out event – good luck!

FUNbledon 2024

With just over 2 weeks to the first day of Wimbledon, we held our FUNbledon Championships at West Grove! A doubles event for Thirds and Removes looking for tournament experience, 50 girls and boys competed on the 5th and 12th June respectively. The finalists were Sunai, Oladunni and Diya (Thirds), and Arun and Ishaan (Thirds). They played brilliantly against the Champions: Maya, Jemima and Karina (Rem), and Kaelen and Oscar (Rem).

Well done to Amelia & Amber (Thirds) and Sulaiman & Lukas (Rem) who came 3rd, and Ila & Hsian Wen (Thirds) and Jonny & Shenhan (Rem) who came 4th.

Inter-Year Girls Doubles Championships

On Saturday 8th June, 14 teams from the Thirds, Removes and L4ths, competed against each other to win the Inter-Year trophy. After a round robin, 8 teams advanced to the 1/4 finals and 6 competed in the Plate event. After some close fought battles, Maya and Gia, and Eleanor and Maria (all L4ths) made it to the semi-finals but couldn’t quite overcome Mia (L4) & Elora (Third) and Amelia, Kamila & Isla (L4) who earned their place in the grand final.

Mia and Elora, with their big forehands and dominant serves, earned the 4-2 win which saw them prevail as the 2024 Champions.

(The boys event takes place on Saturday 22nd June.)

Week 6/7 Tennis Update

Last week, the mixed U15 team had a very enjoyable afternoon at Chigwell, where some lovely doubles was played to earn a 14-4 win. The U12, U13 and U14 teams had a lot of court time this week too, with multiple fixtures against Chigwell and Latymer. The latter proved a little too strong for the mixed U13 team as did Chigwell for the combined U12/13/14 Bancroft’s boys team but the U12 and U13 mixed teams came away with 11-7 and 14-7 wins respectively against Chigwell.

The senior mixed team took on Brentwood in their usual enthusiastic and accomplished manner and won 14-7. The senior girls B team went to Chigwell for a friendly fixture and came away with a 9-9 draw which was a terrific result and I would like to say a big thank you to Sukhi, Sophia, Izzy, Arya, Tilly and Tulsi in the L6th who had to sweep some cobwebs off their Removes/L4th rackets but who were only too willing to represent the School and make sure we had a full 6 pairs to take the opposition.
