Boys’ Hockey Tour

A group of Bancroft’s boys from the U4 through to the U6 (years 10 to 13), accompanied by four members of teaching and coaching staff, left for a hockey tour of Singapore and Malaysia on Saturday 25 July.  The tour, which lasts for just under three weeks, gives both U15 and U18 teams a chance to play local clubs and schools as well as experience the cultural highlights of the area.

As their first training session illustrated, it is going to be a challenge playing in the extreme heat and humidity, especially when most of the boys are used to playing their hockey during the delights of the British winter. Their first matches were against Teck Whye Secondary School and, after a delay in starting for an hour, both teams enjoyed success.  The boys played some good, controlled hockey despite the heat, with the U18s winning 4-0 and the U15s notching up a fantastic 8-0 win.

Off the pitch they have also been busy with a traditional English style afternoon tea in the luxurious and historic Raffles Hotel as a celebration for TJ’s 18th birthday.  A visit to Universal Studios in Singapore as well as a trip to the Gardens by the Bay have also been part of the agenda so far.
